We foster the development of skilled pharmacists who can contribute in a wide range of areas such as individual health care and life sciences.

 

Conventional pharmacy mostly paid attention only to the treatment of illness, but now the need for self-directed health care is strongly in demand. Therefore health care is now one of the important duties for the pharmacist. This faculty was established based on a principle of maintaining and promoting good health. The pharmacist who is knowledgeable in nutrition and exercise for health is essential. Towards this end, the Department of Health Medicine has a variety of laboratories such as pharmaceutical product development based on genome science, basic medicine science, food science, environmental science, and biophylactic study.

The Department of Health Medicine covers enormously wide areas; so students are advised to explore and give thoughtful consideration to which area to choose.

 

Advances in medical treatment have revealed major medical illnesses such as cancer, cerebral strokes and heart disease stem from lifestyle habits. It points to the importance of daily health management in order to prevent such diseases. Greater social expectation for self-medication indicates ordinary citizens’ raised awareness for healthcare management. However, the general public has limited medical knowledge and there is a need for pharmacists who can provide advice on health management from the prevention level. Pharmacists who can contribute in the areas beyond traditional framework by using various knowledge and skills related to health such as kinematics, nutrition, immunology and environmental measure in addition to medicine.
